Following Thursday’s book closing deadline, Pasco Democratic Party Chair John Ford released the following press statement:
“The Pasco Democratic Party is proud to announce that Kelly Smith will be running in the Special Election for House District 38. Kelly quickly qualified by petition which shows that the voters of House District 38 are anxious for positive change.”
“Kelly began her career in municipal government, serving as the Zoning Administrator for the City of Marco Island and as the FEMA Administrator for Collier County. Her background in public service is one of the many reasons Democrats were able to unite behind Kelly’s candidacy.”
“It is unfortunate that the Republican Party could not unite behind a single candidate. The GOP is therefore going to have a primary in April, not only costing the tax payers of Pasco County $180,000 but also moving what could have been an April General Election to one in June. As a result of the Pasco Republican Party, the citizens of East Pasco will be without representation in the Florida State Legislature this entire 2019 session.”
The Republican candidates will face off in an April 9 Primary and the General Election will be on June 18.
