Thanks to the generosity of Pasco Democrats, 116 books were donated this week to the Goodwill BookWorks Childhood Literacy Program on behalf of the Pasco Democratic Party. Reading is a vital life skill and access to books should be available to ALL CHILDREN regardless of income. We are are grateful to Democrats who demonstrate their commitment to our community and strive to make it better.
Since 1999, the aim of Goodwill BookWorks has been to get books into the hands and homes of children who otherwise may not have the opportunity to have them. Dedicated volunteers read to children at Head Start centers and other locations and present each child with a personalized book to take home. BookWorks also helps get books to elementary-aged students at schools in need, covering an eight-county area and serving more than 40,000 children annually!
BookWorks is designed to instill a love of books and encourage self-sufficiency. Studies show that reading is critical in early childhood development and many children do not have the luxury of having books in the home.
